a boissier sweet life
Here at The French Collective we are committed to sourcing the very best French brands and products to bring you our stylish Luxe Gift Box experience for Francophiles. So when we stumbled upon La Maison Boissier we literally felt like we had landed in a sweet kind of Parisian heaven. Everything about this brand is exquisite and steeped in history. Boissier Paris is an icon of gastronomic France and highly celebrated, having endured nearly two centuries. The house has an iconic reputation as a master confectioner and chocolaterie dating back to 1827 – today, it’s one of Paris’s oldest confectionery shops. Originally founded by Bélissaire Boissier, a passionate entrepreneur driven in the pursuit of his confectionery dreams and the service of excellence, his legacy was so beloved that he became known as the Poet of Delicacies.
Béllisaire Boissier had his first stroke of good fortune after he had the unique idea of glazing chestnuts when he happened to find himself watching a cargo train unloading them in Paris. He began to think about ways in which to preserve the life of the much loved chestnut and he then set about experimenting with icing, which soon led to his inimitable creation of the Marron Glacé. Boissier’s recipe was the very first of its kind and led to him opening his first boutique on historic Boulevard des Capucines.
Thanks to Boissier dear doves, happy at your feet, we are falling. Because we take the strong with bombs, and the weak with candy. - Victor Hugo
Béllisaire’s ingenius creations were an instant success, quickly favoured by the ladies of Paris’s high society. He continued to add to his confectionery repertoire and as good society began to expand to new areas, Béllisaire made the wise decision to open a Bossier on four of the grandest streets in Paris, the Champs-Elysees, Boulevard de Courcelles, Avenue Raymond Poincaré and Avenue Victor Hugo. At these counters carriages would stop out the front allowing Parisians to replenish stock of their favourite treats. The confectioner made such an impression on the Parisian elite (who clearly had a sweet tooth) that the likes of Victor Hugo, Emily Zola and Alexandre Dumas were regular clients. Victor Hugo’s favourite was the Bonbon (Candy Ball), another original creation by Boissier in homage to Paris, which has endured as one of the most loved French candy. He famously penned the words above expressing his love of Boissier’s fine creations.
The legendary status of Maison Boissier continues to delight all ages to this very day. Now with an absolutely divine flagship boutique and a few select retailers across Paris, the story continues in the most beautiful of ways – always respecting and paying homage to the nostalgia of the brand’s rich history. Iconic recipes, passionate and skilled artisans, innate attention to detail and gorgeous packaging adorning the original imagery from the Boissier archives… Maison Boissier is a world of pleasure and beauty – one you simply must discover for yourself!
